Mayor: Let Holy Week be time for reassessment

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Oscar Rodriguez on Wednesday encouraged public servants to "commune" and make Holy Week a time for self-denial and reassessment.
He urged City Hall employees to continue rendering full service to Fernandinos until Holy Wednesday before taking their Lenten break.
"I urge you to enjoy your long break and observe Holy Week by communing and spending time with your loved ones," he said.
Rodriguez himself spent a hectic Holy Monday awarding livelihood assistance [Self-Employment Assistance] to some 25 women from Northville, as well as recognition and grants to the champion Team San Fernando Karatedo and giving shoes to the City of San Fernando Basketball squad.
"We join the Filipino nation, as well as the Fernandinos in observing -- seriously -- our Lenten Season. And we hope that the real spirit of the Lenten season will creep into the consciousness of everyone, particularly our penitents with self-denial, love of our fellowmen by sharing our sufferings, and more -- as in my personal view -- contemplation and self-reassessment," he said.
Rodriguez said he would spend the Holy Week with his family, especially his grandchildren.
"Usually I go to places where I could commune because since my childhood; Lent has been very important in my life," he said.
