Groups join Elderly Week Celebration

THE Elderly Week Celebrations in Angeles City featured a host of activities that delighted dozens of seniors who attended the events at the SM City Clark last October 1.

The celebration that will run from October 1 to 7, with the theme "Gabay, Tulay, Kaagapay, at Bantay Tungo sa Kaunlaran," is in coordination with the Office of the City Mayor, Office of the Senior Citizens and in partnership with SM City Clark.

The kick-off celebrations at SM City Clark consisted of dance contests with Epza Pulung Cacutud Dance Group being declared as this year’s grand winner, followed by the best float, slogan making contest and the Mr. and Ms Senior Citizen tilt.

Felicidad Banigan, 102-years-old from Epza Pulung Cacutud, was also honored during the event as the oldest senior citizen in the city.

Attending the event were Editha Serrano of the Department of Social Welfare and Development and Mayor Ed Pamintuan who awarded the Most Senior and Mr. & Mrs. Senior Citizen winners.

Some 15,000 senior citizens from the 33 barangays of Angeles City attended the event.

Other events scheduled for the week include the Socialization and Ballroom Dancing (October 2), Balik Tanaw at SM City Clark (October 4), Visitation of Elderly Sick Member (October 4), Tree Planting (October 5), Medical and Dental Mission at OSCA Pampanga (October 6), and Culmination "Re-Creational Activities/Labay Aral @ Lipa City Batangas (October 7).

SM City Clark Public Relations officer Venus Manalang said the mall supports activities for senior citizens and has been hosting a series of development programs for seniors as part of the mall’s corporate social responsibility program.
