Saturday, January 14, 2012

ANGELES CITY -- The Green Youth Brigade (GYB) held a free ice cream-making activity dubbed as “Homemade Ice Cream: A Healthy Alternative” at the Verman Car Park, Miranda Street, Barangay Sto. Rosario, this city.

Former Councilor Louie Reyes, GYB head, said they decided to conduct the seminar to help residents in developing their own livelihood.

GYB is a network of youth-based community, people's organization, non-government organization, and environmental advocates.

It is working on issues that promote a healthy environment and its sustainable development.

“How can one resist the classic ice cream? Since childhood up until adulthood, ice creams are very popular frozen desserts made from dairy products. It is made from milk mixed with fruits and other ingredients. In some cases, ice creams contain sugar. Most varieties use artificial flavorings and colorings,” Reyes said.

“However, we will present recipes using less or no sugar and promote natural ingredients. Homemade ice cream is as delicious, tasty and yummy to the taste buds. It is a better and healthy alternative to commercial ice creams,” he added.

Reyes said they are excited about the homemade ice cream since this is the second time that the Green Youth Brigade has featured food in its activities.

Last year, the group introduced the preparation of the famous veggie sisig.

“It was a great success. Our audience really enjoyed the veggie sisig. They will love homemade ice cream - taste like commercial ice creams but healthier. People will be surprised. It has big market potential for health conscious people,” Reyes said.

With the help of the media and the social networking sites, the GYB will continue to promote homemade ice cream, according to Reyes.
