IBA, Zambales -- Zambales Provincial Administrator Jun Omar C. Ebdane officially quit his post Monday and expressed his intention to join the special elections for the Zambales second district representative next month.
The young Ebdane, who is the youngest son of Governor Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr., made the announcement during an assembly of government officials and employees at the Capitol after receiving a declaration of support from town mayors from the municipalities that make up the second district.
The assembly was also attended by some members of the Provincial Board, and barangay officials from all over the province.
The special election will be held on February 4 to choose the replacement for former Congressman Antonio M. Diaz, who died last August.
Omar has served as the provincial administrator since July 2010 when his father won the governorship by landslide vote.
As administrator, Omar supervised the Governor's Office Action Center which manages community programs and projects for indigent residents, and the Youth and Sports Development Office, which was created by the Ebdane administration to promote youth welfare and implement athletic events and scholarship programs.
Among those who are reported to join the race for the second district representative seat are Cheryl Deloso, daughter of former Gov. Amor Deloso and Rica Diaz, one of the daughters of the late congressman Diaz. (Anthony Bayarong)
