CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Cannes Film Festival-winning director Brillante Mendoza is planning to hold a Pampanga premier of his indie film “Captive”, which is now in competition in the main section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
The film festival will be held in Berlin, Germany’s capital city, on February 9 to 19 this year.

Brillante, in his letter to the Pampanga Provincial Board dated January 12, said the tentative showing of the film will be on April 2012.
“Captive,” which top-bills French actress Isabelle Huppert with Filipino actors Ronnie Lazaro, Raymond Bagatsing, Angel Aquino and Sid Lucero, among others, will have its world premiere at the Berlin festival, alongside Antonio Chavarrias’ “Dictado” from Spain and Edwin’s “Postcards From the Zoo” from Indonesia.
Proceeds from the premier are expected to be forwarded to The Film Academy of Pampanga and its ongoing projects.
The Film Academy of Pampanga was organized by Brillante and other local art movers to create a local film industry in Pampanga and place the province in the national and international movie scene.
Currently, Mendoza is working on a Kapampangan film woven around the culinary traditions of the province. He is also seeking the assistance of the Provincial Board on the said film.
“We are making an anthology of 10 short films on various aspects of Kapampangan culture,” Mendoza said.
