CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- San Simon Mayor Leonora Wong denied Wednesday an Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) report that her town does not have an operating materials recovery facility (MRF).
Wong said the local government unit (LGU) of San Simon has four MRFs.

In an interview, Wong said her town has three barangay-based MRFs and a municipal MRF where they haul most of their garbage.
"Our MRFs are in Barangay Sto. Nino, Sta. Monica and San Isidro. Our municipal MRF is in Barangay Dela Paz," Wong said.
She said these MRFs were put up in middle of 2011 and were given a budget for operation and maintenance.
Vice Mayor Honorato Almario added that some households have started segregating and recycling their own garbage which reduced the need to bring these at the MRFs.
Mayor Wong said her administration is strengthening their campaign on proper waste segregation.
Wong and Almario were in San Fernando to receive their Seal of Good Housekeeping Award from the Department of Interior and Local Government during an awarding ceremony at the Heroes Hall.
Earlier, the EMB in Central Luzon has issued a report to Sun.Star Pampanga, which stated that San Simon is one of the six towns in Pampanga that has not yet established its MRF even after the enactment of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management of 2000.
