Group hosts speech fest

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pi Sigma Fraternity and Pi Sigma Delta Sorority of UP Diliman Extension Program in Pampanga (UPDEPP) held their annual Speech Fest competition over the weekend with the theme: “Green Revolution: The Fate of the Earth Lies Upon Your Hands”.

The event, an inter-high school speech competition, was held at the Robinsons Starmills Pampanga in celebration of their Deltan Week, a week-long celebration of the 30th local anniversary of Pi Sigma Delta in UPDEPP.

“The theme of the event was inclined to the campaign of the fraternity and sorority about the country’s environment issues. The event constituted three speech competitions – English and Filipino Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speech Competition, and Speech Choir Competition,” the group said in a statement.

The guest judges were composed of alumna Aila Yonika Balingit of UPDEPP Pi Sigma Delta Sorority, alumnus Brod Oji Sanchez of HAU Pi Sigma Fraternity, Campaign Coordinator George Baya,Jr. of Bantay Amianan, and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Chief Admin Division Region 3 Maria Teresa P. Fragata.

Representatives from Pampanga High School and Chevalier School joined the competitions. Pauline Gail V. Martinez from Pampanga High School won 1st place for Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speech (English Category) while Aira M. Bituin from Chevalier School gained 2nd placer.

“The winners for Extemporaneous and Impromptu Speech (Filipino Category) were Marc Wendolf N. Duque from Pampanga High School (1st place), and Alyana Marie D. Guarin from Chevalier School (2nd place). The champion for the Speech Choir competition was from the Pampanga High School,” the group said.

After the event, the organizers of introduced the Green Youth Brigade, a nationalist, environmental mass-organization which was an environmental organization launched last 2010 in Angeles City.
