STO. TOMAS — The satellite campus of the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) here is expected to operate this coming June for the school year 2012-2013.
DHVTSU president Enrique Baking said he expects the campus to be operational by June for the new school year upon completion of the Provincial Government’s infrastructure programs for the campus in Barangay Moras del Paz here.

“We are targeting some 200 to 300 students to jumpstart the whole campus operations. We hope that the initial student population would be substantial so as to encourage other students to enroll,” Baking said, adding that institutions and organizations with scholarship programs in the 4th district of Pampanga may opt to enroll their beneficiaries at the state university.
Baking said the campus has enough room for expansion in the coming years with at least six hectares of land, formerly occupied by the Department of Health and the National Irrigation Administration, available.
The program, pushed by Governor Lilia Pineda, is expected to benefit students from Macabebe, Masantol, Apalit, Candaba, San Simon, Minalin, Sto. Tomas and San Luis.
Baking said the programs of the campus will mainly focus on technical vocational programs along with Bachelor of Science courses.
“We hope to become the center of quality and affordable education in the area with the help and support of the officials and local stakeholders,” Baking said.
Pineda had allotted at least P15 million as initial fund for the development projects of the satellite campus.
The campus is the second of its kind after DHVTSU-Mexico campus was opened in the late 1990s, and re-launched by Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales (3rd district). The lawmaker has allotted scholarship items for the said campus that contribute to the student population of the campus.
Currently, another satellite campus is now being planned at Barangay Pio in Porac town where local officials have already identified a suitable location for the campus.
The satellite campus is still being finalized by DHVTSU and local officials here.
