Groups to hold simultaneous clean-up at Pampanga River
Monday, February 6, 2012
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Various groups in the province have set a simultaneous clean-up drive along the stretch of the Pampanga River on February 14.
Dubbed "Heart for the River," the activity will be spearheaded by the respective municipalities adjacent to the said river, as previously agreed and approved by mayors in a meeting attended by religious groups and other sectors here.

The clean-up drive aims to save Pampanga River from continuous dumping of domestic garbage by the communities near its embankment.
Among those who will be joining are people from various parochial churches and different groups under its umbrella.
The barangay officials and municipal employees will be headed by their mayors in the said activity.
This came amid reports that a big volume of garbage was seen in the embankment of the Pampanga River here.
It can be recalled that Catholic leaders are preparing for a “Grand Marian Fluvial Parade” at Rio Grande de Pampanga commonly known to local folks as Pampanga River in May.
Father Mark Manabat, chairman of “Crusada Penitensiya,” in a meeting with municipal mayors, encouraged them to participate in the preparation of the planned fluvial parade.
Mayor Jerry Pelayo, speaking in behalf of the mayors in the 4th district of the province, committed full cooperation to ensure a successful Marian parade.
As this developed, Pelayo was tasked to mobilize all local elected officials in various municipalities for a simultaneous Pampanga River clean-up activity. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
