PORAC -- Some 75 farmers from all over this town had timeout from farm work during Friday's 4th Farmers' Day here, as part of the development assistance of the Municipal Government of Porac and Department of Agriculture (DA) to farmers and their families.
The event, attended by Mayor Condralito dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David, DA regional director Andrew Villacorta and other local officials, featured dance numbers, raffles and distribution of farm implements to farmers from different barangays.

Mayor Dela Cruz said he has been very supportive of the event for the farmers with his administration, providing assistance and development projects to farmers and their groups through irrigation works and farm-to-market roads.
"The farmers of Porac have been the moving force behind the development of this town. We are still a farm-based economy but we hope to revolutionize farming through the help of our farmers who are willing to usher in development," Dela Cruz said.
Meanwhile, the farmers performed presentations highlighting local farming culture. Vice Mayor Dexter David said the event showcased the many talents of farmers and their families. He added that the event also served as a consultation venue for farmers on issues regarding their sector.
"Farmers are essential in the movement of our economy. We invite farmers to be one with the local government with its programs so that we can achieve better development for the sector," David said.
Villacorta, for his part, said the DA is now implementing various farmer assistance programs that include the subsidies for seeds, farm mechanization and construction of irrigation facilities.
Farmers who attended the event also received raffle prizes and farm implements courtesy of Butil party-list Representative Agapito "Pits" Guanlao.
