CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The City of San Fernando Water District hosted over the weekend a social service program for pregnant women of Barangay San Nicholas here in an event dubbed as “Buntis Party” in cooperation with the City Health Office.
City of San Fernando Water District general manager Jorge Gumba said the event was also open to women coming from the Rural Health III–CSFP units in various barangays.
Some 85 pregnant women came and availed themselves of the free services offered by the City of San Fernando Water District.
The event is part of the week-long 35th Founding Anniversary Celebration of the water district that officially ended on Friday. As part of the celebration, the water utility hosted socio-civic programs for the communities it serves.
Services rendered during the event included free hepatitis-B tests, glucose tests, blood pressure checkups and distribution of free Buntis kits with multi-vitamins.
“We also hosted talks to further equip young mothers with the skills and knowledge of caring for their health in order to ensure safe and healthy birth,” Gumba said.
The City Health Office also gave orientations regarding pregnancy and possible ways to avoid problems.
The orientation also focused on the health and practical benefits of breastfeeding to newborn babies and the importance of proper nutrition for babies and mothers before and after giving birth. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
