PORAC — Mayor Condralito dela Cruz said Wednesday he is now coordinating with the Clark Development Corporation, business leaders and other institutions for the possibility of providing more scholarship grants to indigent students who would be enrolling at the Don Honorio Ventura Technological University (DHVTSU) Porac Campus.
Dela Cruz told Sun.Star Pampanga that 300 additional indigent students may soon enjoy scholarship assistance in various amounts.
He said the move will provide more students here, particularly those coming from low-income families, to avail themselves of quality education.
“This is a great opportunity that we have at DHVTSU campus here. The state university will surely usher in a new era of educational opportunities for the people of Porac,” Dela Cruz said.
It could be remembered that the DHVTSU campus here is now being constructed in Barangay Pio and will open its doors to enrollees in June.
The campus will be offering Bachelor of Science courses in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Industrial Technology, Information Technology and Technical Teacher Education.
It is expected to cater to students of Porac, Sta. Rita and Floridablanca in Pampanga, southern barangays of Dinalupihan, and in Angeles City.
“The scholarships will primarily benefit indigents. We will be setting qualifications so that we will be properly guided in the screening processes,” Dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz is optimistic that many non-government institutions and business leaders will support scholarship programs.
“Education of the young is not just the responsibility of the family but of the whole community,” Dela Cruz said.
Initially, some 135 scholarship slots will be made available to indigent but deserving students from this town to form part of the initial population, which will jumpstart the operation of the DHVTSU in June.
DHVTSU president Enrique Baking told Sun.Star Pampanga that the said slots will be shouldered by the Municipal Government of Porac under the leadership of Dela Cruz. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
