De Lima undecided on CJ nomination

CLARK FREEPORT – Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila De Lima on said “I’m still weighing it well”, when asked on Thursday regarding her nomination for the Chief Justice position.
She said she is also undecided whether to run as senator on 2013 election.
De Lima was among the main speakers of the convention the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) held at the Mimosa Convention Center in this Freeport from June 27 until Saturday.
De Lima’s is one of those immediately nominated for the top post in the Supreme Court after Chief Justice Renato Corona was impeached from office.
Her name likewise is among those marked for a senatorial position for the coming national elections in May 2013.
The Justice chief said there is a lot to be considered, especially now that there is a pressing need for the process of healing to correct the people’s doubt on the country’s judicial system.
But she added she has no doubt that the judiciary can correct itself “if only they can toe the line”.
The Judicial Bar Council (JBC) is still in the process of choosing the next chief justice of the Supreme Court. Forty nominations for the chief justice position have been submitted so far. (Wilfredo Villareal)
