Dengue ‘outbreak’ under control

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Lito Naguit of Santo Tomas town said on Monday that the reported dengue outbreak in one of its villages is now under control.
Naguit met with Governor Lilia Pineda in the Capitol Monday morning to clarify that the “outbreak”, reported on national television recently, has been contained by the Municipal Government through the help of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Naguit said the dengue cases in the town have all been accounted for and were given necessary attention by the Municipal Government. He assured that the report on national television was not an exact representation of the real situation of dengue cases in the town.
“The situation has been controlled and the dengue patients there were treated. In fact, we have given them financial assistance of P2,000 each.
There were about 22 cases reported. Even those who were treated last May were given assistance by the Municipal Government,” Naguit told Sun.Star Pampanga.
Of the 22 cases, the town recorded one casualty.
He added that control measures like cleaning of canals and treating of chemicals on breeding sites have been done.
He added that his local municipal health office is doing the rounds of information campaigns to inform residents on ways to address dengue and dengue carrying mosquitoes.
Naguit was corroborated by PHO officials who said the dengue outbreak was immediately contained.
“The term ‘outbreak’ is just a medical term we use in such cases. But the situation in Santo Tomas is not really alarming and worrying,” PHO officials said.
