CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The City Government of San Fernando launched on Monday the Performing Arts Council to boost local artist groups, provide a continuing development plan for the arts and preserve local culture.
City Councilor Jimmy Lazatin said the council is tasked to prepare an annual plan on the performing arts program to be integrated in the local development plan.
The council is also assigned to formulate programs and recommendations to develop local cultural and artistic talents in the field of performing arts.
“The council is our city’s contribution in the institutionalization of programs for cultural preservation and boosting support for artists,” Lazatin said.
He added that the council will be able to help the tourism sector in the city as it would be able to showcase the best cultural attractions.
Performing Arts Council chair Irwin Nucum said they have slated a year-long list of activities for the council.
He said that though the council is still young, they will be trying to come up with development programs for artists and advance the welfare of the culture and arts sector here on the legislative level.
There will be a “Bengi ning Kultura at Musikang Pilipino” on August 17 followed by the 5th Anniversary concert of Ara Muna on September 21. It will be followed by Paskung Fernandino Christmas concert on December 14, Choir Festival on February 15, 2012, concert at the Patio on March 15, and the Singing Priests’ concert on April 19.
