MAGALANG -- Former Magalang mayor Lyndon Cunanan is set to stage a comeback here in the 2013 mayoralty race against incumbent Mayor Romulo Pecson.

Cunanan told Sun.Star Pampanga that the move was prompted by calls from his former constituents to run again for public office and his personal desire to make Magalang in the forefront of tourism, investment, and agri-technological development in Pampanga.

“This is a way of giving the people a choice between the current and former administrations and to gauge whether the people are satisfied with the services of the current municipal leadership,” Cunanan told Sun.Star Pampanga.

Cunanan said he is batting to bring Magalang back into the top rank of among the cleanest and greenest municipalities here.

The former mayor is also eyeing to develop the 50-hectare land along the slopes of Mt. Arayat here as the newest development area for tourism complete with facilities and attractions for tourists from Metro Clark area.

He said he plans to make Mt. Arayat as the centerpiece of a tourism plan that would include the establishment of amenities like ziplines and leisure facilities for local and foreign tourists alike.

Magalang sits as a spillover town for investments from Angeles City and Clark Freeport.

However, Cunanan said the town is not yet able to fully exploit its potential in terms posturing itself as the next best investment and tourism destination in the first district.

Cunanan also said that he is eyeing the revival of the Sweet Tamarind Project here.

Earlier, Cunanan initiated the declaration of Magalang town as Pampanga’ sweet tamarind capital with the aim of popularizing the sweet tamarind variety developed through the help of the Pampanga Agricultural College.
