Mountain bikers plant trees along megadike

ANGELES CITY -- Hundreds of mountain bike riders participated Tuesday in a tree planting initiated by the Kapampangan MTBikers Network in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Pampanga.
More than 500 seedlings of African Tulip and Banaba (Mitla) were planted at the eastern portion of the megadike in the City of San Fernando, Bacolor and Porac town.
The DENR provided the trees planted by the mountain bike enthusiasts belonging to several mountain bike groups from Porac, City of San Fernando, Mabalacat, Angeles City, Candaba, Mexico, Arayat and others.
Jack Lalu, chief of the Forest Management Section of the DENR provincial office in Arayat town, thanked the cyclists for participating in the agency’s reforestation program.
Lalu said every citizen is encouraged to plant at least 10 trees annually in consonance with national greening program.
For its part, the Kapampangan MTBikers Network thanked the DENR for providing the seedlings.
Some of the bike groups that participated in the tree planting were Bike Hub, Lagalag Mt Bikers, Pelikan Bikers, Eastgate Bikers, Ram, Bikers, Mabalacat Cycling, Abe Bikers, Kabalen XC, Pampanga Trail Riders, Recyclers, Dawn Bikers, and others.
