Children hunt bullfrogs for meals

CANDABA – Several children here over the weekend caught bullfrogs along rice fields and idle lands with water plants as food for their families.
According to them, catching bullfrogs is their way of helping their parents find alternative source of livelihood during the rainy season.
“Masaya po kami dahil nalilibang na po kami, natutulungan pa namin ang aming mga nanay sa paghahanap ng pagkain at pag madami ang huli ay pwedi pang ipagbili,” Jayson Sibug, a grade 4 pupil here, said.
Sibug told Sun.Star Pampanga that hunting bullfrogs is exciting as passing school quizzes during weekdays.
“Kailangan din po ng talento sa panghuhuli ng palaka. Dapat alam mo saan ka pupuwesto para makahuli ka, tulad ng test sa school dapat may talento ka din at maganda ding ang pwesto,” he added.
Meanwhile, the water level in Pampanga River is rising anew despite fine weather.
“Di naman gaano umuulan pero ang laki na naman ng tubig sa ilog natin. Siguro nagbukas na naman sila ng dam sa ibang lugar,” Policarpio Galang, a resident here said.
In Barangay San Agustin, residents started cleaning their houses and backyards Sunday. However, they were surprised that there was floodwater, only after two hours, coming from the rice fields.
“Galing siguro sa ilog ang tubig. Magkarugtong kasi ang sapa dito sa bukid at ang malaking ilog,” another resident here said.
