P10M set for flood system rehab in Pampanga

MINALIN — Governor Lilia Pineda said over the weekend that the recently approved P5 million to jumpstart the rechanneling project here.
Pineda said the channeling works are currently being undertaken by the Provincial Engineer’s Office along with local government units and supporters of the project.
Pineda, however, said that the Capitol is currently studying effective measures to prevent another massive flooding scenario in Gugu Creek in Bacolor and the main breach point in Sto. Tomas.
The governor said residents in flood-prone areas should still be prepared in case of rains and flooding. She added that local government units should take measures to ensure that disaster response plans are in place and residents are prepared in case of calamities.
Pineda recently approved a P5-million budget to jumpstart the rechanneling project while waiting for the release of funds from the Department of Public Works and Highways.
The municipality of Minalin already dredged some 3.5 kilometers starting at the mouth of the San Francisco River going to the Pasig-Potrero-River.
On the part of the Provincial Government, dredging activities started in Dalang Pari River.
Meanwhile, the DPWH likewise started the rechanneling activity along the area of Pump 2 in Bacolor section.
