CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Governor Lilia Pineda earlier told officials from the isolated villages of Masantol that the provincial government is planning to construct a bridge to connect them to the town proper.
Pineda has observed that most of these barangays are left behind in terms of development.
The residents mostly rely on fishing and find it difficult to bring their aqua produce and other local products to the market located in the town proper.
“Ang nakikinabang po sa mga produkto natin dito gaya ng mga karaniwang lamang dagat ay ang bayan ng Hagonoy sa Bulacan. Mas malapit kasi,” Virginia Lacap, village chief of Balibago, stressed.
Lacap also noted that their constituents cannot just simply go to the municipality to enjoy basic services and other programs being given by their local government unit because going there is expensive.
“Kung wala kang P500 sa bulsa ay hindi ka makakatawid sa ilog papunta sa kabayanan,” she said.
Aside from this, there is also difficulty among the residents to bring their sick family members to the nearest hospital.
Governor Pineda is also looking into the possibility of putting up a small ferry at the Pampanga River to provide residents in Masantol and other neighboring towns an efficient means of transportation.
Pineda said this could give convenience to the affected residents.
The villages Alauli, Bagang, Nigui, Sapang Kawayan, Balibago and Sagrada are located at the left portion of the Pampanga River.
