Motorists hit PUV drivers for endangering public

MEXICO – Motorists complained Wednesday that public utility vehicles are compromising their safety and that of commuters by irresponsibly parking their jeepneys along the Sto. Domingo rotunda here.
According to motorists, jeepneys have been occupying almost half of the lane along the circle going to San Fernando City.
Felix Consuelo, a motorist here said that it is dangerous to motorists and other tricycle drivers coming from the towns of San Luis and Sta. Ana who pass by the area daily, adding that it causes traffic in the area during rush hours.
However, another motorist, Anthony Mallari, clarified that they have nothing against the PUV drivers as long as the PUV drivers make sure that they will not cause accidents.
Meanwhile, it was learned from a resident in the area (who requested anonymity) that each PUV driver gives not less than P40 a day to an undisclosed barangay official as “protection money”. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
