Guv to meet DPWH exec on dike rehab

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda is set to meet Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson anytime, to discuss and finalize the details of dike rechanneling works in the province.
Pineda will present the current status of the ongoing rechanneling works along the Gugu River going to the Dalan Pari River, Labuan River, Pasig Potrero River to San Francisco River in Minalin town.
This also involves the initial assessment on the palliative measures jointly implemented by the provincial government, public works and concerned local government units.
The rechanneling initiative is aimed at diverting the volume of water that comes through the breached portion of the San Fernando-Sto. Tomas Minalin tail dike.
Singson is expected to speak about the total rehabilitation plan of the waterways of Gugu River, Dalan Pari River, Labuan River and Pasig Potrero River.
Initially, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Antonio Molano has requested for the approval and release of some P245 million for the said rehabilitation plan.
The local government unit of Minalin previously started its rechanneling works at the Labuan River.
They have dredged and rechanneled more or less 3.5 kilometers of the Dalan Pari River along the Minalin tail dike, and are still working for the diversion of waterways in the area.
On the part of the Provincial Government, Engr. Noli Pangan disclosed that some 1.5 kilometers have been dredged along the Dalan Pari River.
Pangan said the local government have also widened and deepened the rechanneled waterways in the area.
The embankment of the portion of Sta. Rita, Minalin tail dike was dredged to protect the integrity of its structure.
Recently, the local government unit of Sto. Tomas started to mobilize one backhoe with barge to augment the ongoing rechanneling of the Dalan Pari River.
The quarry operators, meanwhile, mobilized two backhoes and one barge but no accomplishment yet according to the provincial engineering office.
