ANGELES CITY -- A Nigerian national who may yet turn out as an illegal alien was arrested here last night for seriously hurting and threatening his Filipina live-in partner.
Based on the statement of AJ (not her real name), 26, of Marisol Subdivision, suspect Evans Usuanelele, 32, grabbed her by the hair and pushed her face onto the LCD screen of her laptop. He then repetitively slapped her.
Not content with this, Usuanelele tried to choke her despite the fact that she had just underwent an operation to remove a cyst on the right side of her neck.
When she was able to momentarily wrangle herself free from his grip, she told police she called an auntie for help who in turn sought the assistance of barangay officials.
AJ, who is engaged in the buy and sell of used cars, told police that around 5 p.m. Thursday, her aunt arrived at the apartment she shared with Usuanelele with a prospective car buyer. Usuanelele, who was upstairs chatting online with somebody on the computer, did not bother to go downstairs to meet her aunt.
After her aunt and the client left, AJ went upstairs and found out that it was another girl Usuanelele was chatting with online. After she called his attention on the matter, AJ told police the suspect grabbed her and started hurting her.
A barangay official with a staff arrived thereafter and tried to restrain the Nigerian and take him into custody.
The Nigerian, authorities said, resisted and hurled invectives at everyone including AJ's aunt and the barangay officials, until he was taken to the barangay hall where he was picked up by the elements of the Police Station 4.
According to AJ, she met Usuanelele last February. Not long after, AJ said the suspect started hurting her for the flimsiest of reasons and sometime for no reason at all.
The suspect is now detained at the Angeles City Police Office Station 5 in Barangay Balibago.
