MABALACAT CITY -- It’s a three-cornered fight in the mayoralty race here as incumbent Mabalacat Mayor Marino Morales will be opposed by Vice Mayor Noel Castro (Independent) and Noli Castro Jr. of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP) in the upcoming elections.
Supporters of Morales, who is seeking reelection for his last term, said the mayor is seen to regain his seat based on his good performance, one of which is the conversion of the former Mabalacat town into a component city.
Morales has also increased tax collections in the city after urging locators in the Clark Freeport to pay the five percent Gross Income Earned (GIE) to the local government of Mabalacat.
The conversion of Mabalacat into a component city will also increase the IRA share of the city next year, further improving the delivery of basic services.
Morales said Castro had been opposing the conversion of the town.
Castro, a resident of barangay San Joaquin, ran for councilor during the last elections but lost. He was the last candidate who filed his certificate of candidacy for city mayor.
