CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Some 1,275 college students received cash assistances from the “Iskolar ng Dong” program of Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales (3rd district) Sunday.
Gonzales distributed cheques at his Sindalan District office amounting to P3,000 each to the beneficiaries enrolled under Bachelor Science and Vocational courses. These include some 933 Bachelor Science students from Arayat, Sta. Ana, Mexico, Bacolor; 179 beneficiaries enrolled in vocational courses in San Fernando City; and 163 students enrolled at the Visualcom College.
The distribution is part of Gonzales's commitment for the 1st Semester enrollment of the said students under the scholarship program.
“I urge all the student beneficiaries to study hard and finish their studies. This assistance, though without any grade requirement, should be reciprocated with good academic performance or at least diligence towards study,” Gonzales said.
Earlier in May, Gonzales announced that a P14 million scholarship fund is now ready to benefit the new set of scholar “Iskolar Ng Dong” program.
Gonzales said the new fund will enable him to accommodate more scholars for the school year 2012 to 2013, while promising to continue the existing scholars under his education program.
Gonzales assured his scholarship program will continue with its no maintaining grade policy and will be prioritizing indigent applicants as well as those who are children of farmers, people with disabilities and informal sector workers. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
