ANGELES CITY - President Aquino on Monday signed into law House Bill No. 4450, a bill converting the Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) into a state university.

The President signed Republic Act 10605, or an Act converting Pampanga Agricultural College (PAC) in the municipality of Magalang, into a state university to be known as the Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU).

Lawmaker asks COA to audit city gov't

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Outgoing Rep. Aurelio "Dong" Gonzales Jr. (Third District) has asked the Commission on Audit (COA) to conduct a special audit and examination of "the accounts, books and records" of the City Government of San Fernando for fiscal years 2013 and 2012.

Gonzales filed the request before COA Chairperson Maria Gracia M. Pulido-Tan who received the lawmaker's letter personally last Monday in her office in Quezon City.

Capitol buys P7-M disaster preparedness equipment

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - The Provincial Government of Pampanga has spent some P7 million to purchase 200 hand-held radio communication devices as part of the disaster preparedness plan of the province.

These devices will be used for the establishment of community-based early warning system in all municipalities and cities.

Agri office spends P300M for programs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) spent some P300,618,206.95 for various programs and projects from 2010 to this quarter of 2013, benefitting thousands of farmers, fisherfolk, cooperatives and even students.

The OPA, under the administration of Governor Lilia Pineda, undertook 11 prime programs that boosted agricultural and fishery industries in Pampanga's 18 towns and two cities.

Councilor optimistic for barangay, SK polls

71 dengue cases noted in Angeles

ANGELES CITY –- The City Health Office (CHO) has recorded 71 confirmed cases of dengue in the city, even as it warned the public on the rising cases of dengue fever with the onset of the rainy season.

City Health Officer Lenario Santos said the wet season is also the time that dengue cases increase, as the dengue carrier mosquitoes live in wet places.

Biz groups unite to donate school building

Locals assail works on Arnedo Dike

CANDABA, Pampanga -- Locals are criticizing the engineering design being employed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in rehabilitating a portion of the Arnedo Dike in Barangay Mandasig here.

Construction workers on the site, they noted, have started building another wall made of boulders, covered with a metal net adjacent to the original dike part of which already collapsed.

Police nab couple for illegal drugs

CAMP OLIVAS -- A couple suspected to be involved in an illegal drug operation was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Sto. Niño, Sto. Tomas town over the weekend.

In a belated report, Senior Superintendent Oscar Albayalde, acting provincial police director of Pampanga, identified the arrested couple as Renato Tulana, 41, and wife Marieta, 35, both of Barangay San Vicente, Sto. Tomas town.

Korean firm signs P20-B tourism project in Subic

Boy, 9, killed in hit and run

TARLAC CITY –- A 9-year-old boy died after a hit and run incident in Barangay San Roque here over the weekend, according to reports.

Based on a report to Tarlac Police Provincial Office Director Senior Superintendent Alfred Corpus, the victim was identified only as Andro, Grade 4 pupil of Tarlac West Elementary School, of Block 3, Barangay San Vicente.

11 GROs rescued from Tarlac bar

TARLAC -- Eleven guest relations officers or GROs were rescued by the Tarlac Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, while two suspects were arrested in an entrapment operation at Cristy’s Beer Garden in Barangay Apulig, Paniqui, Tarlac over the weekend.

Based on the information obtained by Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit 3 regional chief Senior Superintendent Victor Valencia Jr., there were “questionable transactions” occurring at Cristy’s Beer Garden which led to the operation.

Tons of water lilies clog waterways

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- There are seven areas of concern in the city that need to be addressed as the rainy season sets in, including the removal of tons of water lilies in the city's critical waterways, a volunteer engineer said over the weekend.

The volunteer engineer, who requested not to be named, told Sun.Star Pampanga that other interventions include the desilting of creeks, declogging of canals and drainages, and rechanneling of portions in the Sagip Ilog Phase 3B before it is turned over to the City Government.

Tax bureau extends old receipts

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) extended the use and validity of old and supplementary receipts until August 30 this year.

BIR Regional Director Araceli Franscisco said that Internal Revenue commissioner Kim Jacinto-Henares signed Revenue Memorandum Order 44-2013, which extends the deadline for the use of old receipts to give in to the clamor of businesses in the country for enough time to adjust to the new system.

2 killed, 14 others injured in mishap

CAMP OLIVAS - Two persons were killed while 14 others were injured when a Sports Utility Van and a passenger bus collided along the national highway in Barangay San Agustin, San Manuel, Tarlac on Friday.

Tarlac police provincial director Alfred Corpus identified the fatalities as Joselito Bernardo, 49, driver of Isuzu Big Horn and Ronald Comber, 41, both of Binangonan, Rizal.

Accountant loses half million to robbers

CAMP OLIVAS - Two armed men took P500,000 cash from a junior accountant along Ninoy Aquino national highway in Barangay Sta. Maria in Mabalacat City on Friday.

Allander Palo, 28, junior accountant of Magna Peak Service Corp., told police that he and his driver Alberto Utlang were on their way to Clark Freeport on board a Mitsubishi FB van when the incident took place.
