PORAC -- Aeta students of Barangay Camias here received a school building and supplies from Project Malasakit Foundation Inc., a non-government entity founded by Kapampangan journalist Kara Patria David.
Vice Mayor Dexter David said the journalist facilitated the counterpart program of P100,000, which the Municipal Government matched to construct the open-air classroom here for Aeta students.
David said the facility will greatly help the Aeta community here and will provide a facility that could be used as an event and shelter facility for the barangay when not used as a classroom.
“Our students here can now have a more conducive venue for learning. We are happy with the help of Project Malasakit Foundation,” David said.
Kara David, who attended the inauguration of the school facility, also led the distribution of school supplies and slippers to the students.
The event was also attended by the whole Aeta community, who was very happy with the support of the journalist’s foundation.
According to the foundation’s website, “Project Malasakit is a scholarship project founded by broadcast journalist Kara Patria David in 2002. Despite the growing cynicism in the country, Project Malasakit believes that Filipinos are naturally compassionate.”
“We just need a credible, concrete vehicle to channel our ‘malasakit.’ It is our mission to bridge the gap between Filipinos who want to help and Filipino children who need to be helped,” the foundation added.
The foundation also involves itself with other social service missions and programs like classroom construction, distribution of school supplies, and health care for children, among others. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
