CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Second District Board Member Olga Frances “Fritzie” David-Dizon led the distribution of scholarship assistance to some 100 indigent students amounting to P250,000 to help poor but deserving students meet school expenses.
This came after the request of lawmakers to increase the number of recipients from 50 to 100 was approved and granted by Governor Lilia Pineda.
David-Dizon said each of the students received P2,500 as part of the assistance program.
She said the students from Porac, Lubao, Guagua, Sasmuan, Sta. Rita and Floridablanca received their assistances at the Provincial Board Session Hall here in simple ceremonies attended by the beneficiaries and their parents.
“This scholarship program is one of the main trusts of Governor Lilia Pineda in bringing poor but deserving students in school and to help them finish their studies. The assistance goes so far as to help the students meet certain expenses and as additional funding for the tuition needs,” David-Dizon said.
Aside from the new batch of 50, the recipients included graduating students and those under the program for more than a year, maintaining high scholastic marks.
David-Dizon said that the program is set to be expanded in the coming months subject to available funding.
The lady board member, who is set to retire from politics come 2013, said those who will graduate from the program will have their slots taken by other deserving beneficiaries.
She also urged the students to study hard and maintain satisfactory grades to retain membership in the program.
David-Dizon, only daughter of former acting governor and Board Member Edna David and late former Porac mayor Roy David, said she hopes to see more indigent students graduate from the program and gain employment here and abroad.
In turn, the students vowed to make it good in their tertiary courses as they thanked David-Dizon and Capitol for the support. (With Jovi de Leon)
