Arayat village councilman slain

CAMP OLIVAS - A village council member in Arayat town was gunned down by two unidentified motorcycle-riding suspects in front of his house Tuesday night.
Senior Superintendent R’Win Pagkalinawan, acting provincial director of the Pampanga Police, identified the victim as Larry Batas, 39, barangay kagawad of Sto. Nino, Tabuan, Arayat town.
The victim had just arrived home around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday onboard a Mio Soul motorcycle (9662-TO) when he was shot by the suspects.
Pagkalinawan said the victim tried to run but was cornered by the suspects.
The report also said the suspects, who were armed with a .45 caliber pistol and an M-16 rifle reportedly waited for the victim near his house.
Police recovered two spent shells for a .45 and seven for an M-16 at the crime scene.
No one witnessed the said incident.
A police officer (who requested anonymity) said the killing of Batas could be election-related. (Ric Sapnu)
