MACABEBE -- Some 5,300 poor but deserving students from the fourth district towns of Candaba, San Luis, Sto. Tomas, Minalin, Masantol, Apalit, San Simon and Macabebe received Saturday scholarship grants amounting to about P25 million.
The grants of P5,000 each were distributed by Representative Anna York Bondoc-Sagum and Board Member Nestor Tolentino, together with congressional aspirant Rimpy Bondoc, at the former's district headquarters in this town.
Tolentino told Sun.Star Pampanga that the educational assistance is meant to augment the annual school expenses of the students, most of them are in college striving to earn a degree of their choice.
"The study grants from our Congresswoman Anna York and former solon Rimpy are meant to help the thousands of students and their parents in their school expenses. These are given annually so that they could finish their studies and work later on," Tolentino said.
He added that the move is a counterpart measure to the educational assistance accorded by Capitol and Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda, through board members who are allocated 100 slots and where students receive P2,500 per semester or P5,000 each annually.
"This is actually some sort of counterparting with the Provincial Government so we can help and send more of our poor but deserving students to college. All we want them to do is grab the opportunity so they could help their families and others someday. As we have been telling them, be a scholar today and be a good leader tomorrow,” said Tolentino.
