APALIT - Barangay officials here have lauded Governor Lilia Pineda and Board Member Nestor Tolentino for investing on the education of poor students from remote communities in the province’s fourth district.
Jun Munoz, village chief in Paligue, this town, said they are happy because the Provincial Government appears to be serious in bringing affordable and quality college education within the reach of the poor residents.
He said the establishment of the Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU)-Sto. Tomas satellite campus would make a big impact on the lives of the residents, who believe it is only through education that their standard of living will be improved.
"Napakaswerte namin dahil andyan lamang sa tabi ang isang unibersidad. Hindi na kailangang lumayo pa ng aming mga anak para mag-aral. Kahit lakarin na lamang nila ito ay pwede," Munoz told Sun.Star Pampanga in an interview.
The village chief said it was Board Member Tolentino who pushed for the establishment of the said satellite campus, through constant coordination with DHVTSU officials for the requirements.
Dr. Enrique Baking, DHVTSU president, also recognized the participation of Tolentino in realizing the dream of a satellite campus in the fourth district.
He said it was Tolentino who authored the resolution, prompting the creation of the Sto. Tomas satellite campus, and allocating funds for the renovation of the old and abandoned building of the Department of Health in Barangay Moras, Sto. Tomas town for its use.
Meanwhile, Tolentino declared that the same is a realization of a dream for his constituents.
He said it is the deep commitment of Governor Pineda that answered his dream for the poor Kapampangans.
"Siyempre si Nanay ang dapat nating pasalamatan. Ipinakita lamang natin ang idea at nang makita niyang maganda ay sinuportahan naman niya into agad," Tolentino ended. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
