CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- As the National Bible Week culminates Sunday with the “Bible Collecta” in various parishes of the Archdiocese of San Fernando, the religious and lay faithful are urged by the Catholic Church to “continue proclaiming the Word and professing the Faith” embodied in the Holy Book.
According to Rev. Fr. Jesus Layug of the Archdiocesan Commission on the Biblical Apostolate or ACBA, the Holy Bible must continue to be in the center stage even as the celebration of National Bible Week, which started on January 21, ends today, January 27.
This year's celebration -- themed "Proclaim the Word, Profess the Faith" -- featured an array of activities that put the Holy Book in focus.
"Hundreds joined in kicking-off the celebration last January 21 with the Eucharistic celebration presided by Auxiliary Bishop Pablo Virgilio David with several seminary priests at the Metropolitan Cathedral. We also had the grand Bible Parade from the Cathedral to the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary in Barangay Del Pilar where the Bible Exhibit opened and the Inter-School Bible Quiz was held," said Fr. Layug.
The Bible Quiz, he said was won by the Assumpta Technical High School.
Fr. Layug added that the highlights of the week-long celebration included the lecture of Rev. Fr. Marlon Lacal, PhD, on "Spirituality and God's Word," the "HUB" or Handwritten Unity Bible, and the "Bibliodrama Workshop."
Also part of the Bible week was the staging of “Susmaryosep,” a play about faith and spirituality written and portrayed by seminarians from the Philosophy Department of the Mother of Good Counsel Seminary last Thursday.
"We wish to thank the lay faithful, the religious and all Bible lovers who had been part of this grand celebration of the Word of God. Please do join us always as we continue spreading the Word and professing the Faith," said Fr. Layug.
