Lazatin backs initiatives for total gun ban

ANGELES CITY - Representative Carmelo Lazatin (first district) is in support of initiatives for a total gun ban in the country, in a bid to help in reducing gun-related crimes and violence perpetrated by both registered and loose firearm owners.
Lazatin said such implementation of a total gun ban must also be done with strict implementation of laws running after loose firearms in the country, adding that such action would also help police authorities in minimizing gun-related incidents during the election season.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is currently implementing a six-month gun ban to minimize violence ahead of local and congressional elections in May.
Lazatin, however, said that such ban will not prevent people from carrying guns. He said he is also in favor of only two armed body guards per candidate during the election season.
Lazatin added the total gun ban may not totally solve crimes in the country but would contribute significantly in the deterring gun related crimes. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
