CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with radio groups in Central Luzon for collaboration during calamities.

“We have agreed to work together in providing real time information of disaster occurrences to facilitate decision making and appropriate response action,” NTC Regional Director Azor Sitchon said.

Under the MOU, radio groups will be allowed to use NTC’s communication facilities to transmit and receive emergency or disaster-related messages.

They are also entitled to avail themselves of skills training to be organized by NTC.

Sitchon said the messages that will be transmitted by the group will be free of charge as long as they are disaster-related.

Serving as witnesses of the MOU were Regional Directors Josefina Timoteo of the Office of Civil Defense and William Beltran of Philippine Information Agency.

The activity is in line with Republic Act 10121 also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, which stipulates the need to engage the participation of the private sector, volunteers as well as civic organizations in the government’s disaster risk reduction programs toward the completion of resources and effective delivery of services to the citizenry.(PR)
