CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Stalwarts of the Bayan Muna party-list-Pampanga Chapter urged their local leaders to unite and elevate the group's cause to the national level.

Bayan Muna provincial chairman Juanario Maniago issued the statement during the group’s provincial assembly themed “Bayan Muna: Kampeon ng Maralita at Api, Sulong sa Tagumpay sa 2013” at Hilaga (formerly Paskuhan Village) in this city the other day.

Maniago told the more than 500 members and leaders from three cities and 19 towns of Pampanga to support the party list in the upcoming May elections.

“The objective of the assembly is to raise the unity of the leaders and members and to recruit more members for the Bayan Muna in the whole province and to contribute to the democratic forces at the national level,” Maniago told Sun.Star Pampanga.

For his part, Bayan Muna national president Satur Ocampo disclosed that the party was organized as a progressive, nationalist and democratic alternative to “plain reactionary groups.”

“With its organization, a true representative for the interest and well being of the majority of the Filipino people is now at the forefront,” Ocampo said.

Bayan Muna’s main objective, he added, is to promote the basic reforms in society and elevate pro-people laws and regulations to the government: “Part of it is by joining elections to elect honest, nationalist and progressive candidates to different positions in the government.”

Meanwhile, Roman Polintan, Bayan Muna-Central Luzon chair said “the party should organize in every province, in every town and in every barangay to consolidate its forces and elect  true, nationalist, progressive and democratic candidates in all levels of the Philippine political hierarchy.”

The candidacy of Representative Teddy Casiño as senator under the newly formed Makabayan Party, a coalition of various party lists, was also launched during the assembly.
