CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Councilor Jimmy Lazatin said he is willing to relinquish his post as chairman of the 4th City Council’s Committee on Good Governance and Ethics following disagreements on the appointment of a new city engineer vacated by Engineer Nelson Lingat.
After the council’s session on Wednesday, the vice-mayor wannabe told Sun.Star Pampanga his move was to preserve the integrity of the august body.
“It was actually a unanimous decision of the body to put the appointment on hold. I was on leave when the decision was made so there were some complexities in the last session. My willingness to relinquish the chairmanship of the Committee on Good Governance and Ethics is to keep the integrity of the council, transparent and uphold moral ascendancy,” said Lazatin.
He added that he has nothing against the appointment of the candidate for city engineer and that he was simply doing his job as committee chair and legislator.
“The right processes must be followed as usual. We are just doing our job. In every plenary and actions by the City Council, people have the right to know. We will have to take this up in the next session. But as is, I am willing to relinquish the post if need be to come up with a win-win solution on the matter,” said Lazatin.
