MEXICO — Some 1, 000 indigent college students from different barangays of this town received P3 million in scholarship assistance from 3rd District Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. at the Sto. Domingo Elementary School here.
Gonzales was welcomed by school principal Evelyn G. Landayan with the Parents-Teachers Association of Sto. Domingo Elementary School and Barangay Captain Florante Balatbat, who lauded Gonzales for facilitating the construction of the covered court here which is now used by the school and the local community.
Gonzales gave the scholars P3,000 each to scholars who are part of the 35,000 beneficiaries of the “Iskolar ng Dong” program that shoulders the education of indigent students from college, high school, elementary and pre-school. The program also includes skills training programs with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
“This scholarship program also encourages the family of the scholars and the community to extend their support for these students to graduate from their courses. The education of these scholars is a community effort,” Gonzales said.
