294 loose guns seized in Central Luzon

CAMP OLIVAS -- Authorities in Central Luzon have confiscated at least 294 assorted loose firearms since the start of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban on January 13, this year.

The seized firearms were presented to local reporters here on Wednesday by Chief Superintendent Edgardo Ladao, Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Luzon director.

They were confiscated from different police checkpoints, through search warrants, Oplan Katok and Oplan Sita conducted by different provincial and city police offices in Central Luzon, Ladao told reporters.

The confiscated loose firearms are from provincial and city police offices of Aurora - 1, Bataan - 34, Bulacan - 58, Nueva Ecija - 67, Pampanga - 64, Tarlac - 19, Zambales - 23, Angeles City 15, Olongapo City – 4, and Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) - 9.

Ladao said 184 persons were arrested so far and several of them are facing criminal charges in court.

Superintendent Arvin Alcantara, deputy chief of Law Enforcement Division directorate for operation from the National Headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City, personally conducted the inventory of the said loose firearms.

Most of the confiscated loose firearms are caliber .45 pistols, caliber .38 revolvers, shotguns and several homemade guns.

Ladao said the PRO will continue its campaign against loose firearms for safe and peaceful elections on May 13. (Ric Sapnu)
