CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Governor Lilia Pineda recently asked candidates in the May polls, particularly her partymates at the Kambilan (Kambilan Ning Memalen Kapampangan), to refrain from campaigning during Holy Week, especially on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
“All I ask of our fellow candidates is to respect Holy Week and for them to refrain from campaigning. We should all solemnly observe Semana Santa,” Pineda said.
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has moved the campaign period for local aspirants from March 29, a Good Friday, to March 30, Black Saturday.
Pineda said politicians should show and prove to local and international tourists, who flock to various places in the province for the Visita Iglesia and Maleldo rites, that Kapampangans are disciplined.
“I hope we could at least sacrifice the few days of Holy Week. Mahaba pa naman ang campaign period,” the governor added.
She also asked officials to remove campaign collaterals that are not placed in common posting areas at least by Holy Monday.
