Man killed, 2 others hurt in Aurora explosion

CAMP OLIVAS - A 37-year-old man was killed while two others were wounded when a rifle grenade exploded in front of them in Barangay Pingit, Baler, Aurora.
In a report here, the lone fatality was identified as Jay Cuento, 37, a resident of Barangay Pingit, Baler town.
The wounded were Police Officer 1 (PO1) Rommel Gonzales, presently assigned at Baler Police Station and Joel Querijero, 33, a resident of said barangay.
The three were having a drinking session when a certain Jeffry Mercado, 22, arrived holding a rifle grenade, the report said.
Police said Mercado placed the rifle grenade in their table but Cuento accidentally dropped it, causing it to explode.
Cuento suffered severe wounds in different parts of his body and died on the spot, while Gonzales and Querijero, also hit by shrapnel, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. (Ric Sapnu)
