SAN LUIS, Pampanga – Re-elected Mayor Venancio "Asyong" S. Macapagal, his running-mate Vice Mayor Leonardo Salas and seven of his councilors,

Despite reports of alleged vote buying by rival candidates, it was an overwhelming victory for re-elected Mayor Venancio "Asyong" S. Macapagal, his runningmate Vice Mayor Leonardo Salas and seven of his councilors, Macapagal of the Kambilan party got 13,770 votes against his rival Rey Santos (LP) who got 11,040 votes. Salas (Kambilan), meanwhile, got 13,333 against Erwin Clarin (LP), with 10,432 votes.

Municipal Election Officer Melissa Betina De Guzman said the number of registered voters in this town is 30,260 and the actual number who cast their votes is 25,378.

The Kambilan Party scored a majority victory in the Sanggunian Bayan with a score of 7-1.

The winning candidates for Councilors are Cesar Lagman (11,951); Jerry Sagum (11,552); Florentino Ocampo Jr. (11,099); Allan Estacio (10,923); Esmeralda Suba (10,654); Mario Mangalus (10, 164); Edilberto Mangulabnan (9,836) and Bryan Taruc of the LP with (9,456).

Macapagal said it was a "sweet victory" for him and his partymates in light of reported massive vote buying undertaken by supporters of his political rivals.

"Malaki ang pasasalamat ko sa aming mga kakabayan dito dahil hindi nila pinagpalit ang kanilang boto sa pera. Makakaasa po kayo na lalo namin pong paghuhusayan ang pagseserbisyo sa inyo ng totoo," Macapagal said.

Meanwhile, Edilberto Mangulabnan, won as councilor, the first-ever barangay chairman in the history of local politics here to win a seat in the Sanggunian Bayan.

Macapagal is the only incumbent mayor in the 4th District of Pampanga who supported and campaigned for Congressman-elect Juan Pablo "Rimpy" Bondoc and re-elected Board Member Nestor "Bay" Toelentino.

He said that Gov. Lilia "Nanay Baby" Pineda and his son Vice Gov.-elect Dennis "Delta" Pineda also won overwhelmingly against their political rivals here. (Chris Navarro)
