ANGELES CITY — The remains of Kapampangan nurse Erano Santos who was killed in Cordova, Tennessee last July 21 was finally laid to rest at the Holy Mary Memorial Park on Wednesday.
It could be remembered that Santos was found near the Stonebridge Crossing Apartments in Cordova, Tennessee, USA by Memphis police. Santos, 33, sustained a gunshot wound that caused his death, reports added.
Calls for justice reverberated from Santos' relatives and friends and former students in Angeles City. From Lourdes Sur East in this city, Santos was a former Clinical Instructor at the Holy Angel University's College of Nursing. The victim's Facebook page also lists the Philippine International Hospital as among his previous employers.
Santos moved to the United States early last year to fulfill his dreams and work as a nurse. Police reports said Santos was seen in an altercation with a still unknown suspect before he was found dead.
The Philippine Embassy in Washington DC said it will coordinate with the Memphis police in connection with the case.
The Philippine Embassy, through Ambassador Jose Cuisia Jr., condemned what it described as "the senseless killing of a Filipino nurse."
Chris Garcia, a close friend of the victim, said the remains of Santos arrived in the Philippines last August 18 through the help of his employer. He added that they are saddened by the slow resolution of the case, adding that they hope that the case of Santos would not be forgotten.
Santos was laid to rest in their family crypt.
