CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- September 7, Saturday, will be another "green day" for the men and women of Laus Group's dwRW 95.1 FM and CLTV-36 and members of the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas (KBP) in their third annual "Broadcastreeing."
DWRW and KBP-Pampanga Chapter will be joined by partners Jollibee Foods Corporation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine Army, Philippine National Police, the Department of Interior Local Government, Bureau of Fire Protection, local government officials and volunteers in planting some 2,000 bamboo shoots along the riverbanks in Barangays Apalit and Consuelo in Floridablanca town.
The tree planting, which starts at 7 a.m., will cover an estimated 1.5 kilometer stretch designed to vegetate the slopes of waterways in the identified areas, to prevent erosion and subsequent flooding, in consonance with the target to mitigate climate change and alleviate global warming.
"Broadcastreeing" is KBP's contribution to the government's National Greening Program, which envisions an environment-friendly Philippines. The advocacy encourages Filipinos to plant at least 10 seedlings within the next six years to raise a million new trees in the near future.
The first "Broadcastreeing" was conducted in Mexico town in 2011. Last year, the group planted more than 1, 500 saplings of pringon and banaba along the embankment of the City of San Fernando portion of the Megadike.
