TAGUIG CITY -- Grand achiever.
This is another new label now attached to visionary, taipan, philanthropist and civic leader Levy Laus, chairman and chief executive officer of the Laus Group of Companies as C!Magazine, the Philippines' and Asia's most respected and ultimate automotive authority, feted the top Kapampangan businessman with the "Pocholo Ramirez Lifetime Achievement Award."
During the 9th Annual C! Awards held at the Enendrun School Atrium Tent in Bonifacio Global City Tuesday evening, Laus was cited for his contributions in priming countryside development.
The C! pool of editors led by James Deakin disclosed that "Laus is the classic icon of a man who had humble beginnings, but through hard work, foresight and luck, managed to strike big and set the stage for an impressive empire of companies," which began with Carworld 35 years ago and blossomed to 37 more dealerships across Luzon and other interests like media and non-life insurance.
C! furthered: "Through perseverance and a bit of personal touch, Mr.Laus managed to break the negative stereotypes imposed upon dealerships found in the provinces/rural areas during that time, and put up a string of his own dealerships. And by providing the people with better livelihood, it empowered them in the immediate local community."
Along with Laus, Richard Lee, chairman emeritus of Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. and Governor Jose Alvarez, chairman of the Columbian Group of Companies, also received the Pocholo Ramirez Award.
The award is named after racing legend Pocholo Ramirez, who died of cancer years ago. Branded as the "Jedi master of driving," Ramirez was admired for his smooth racing techniques. His racing career spanned 45 years, with successful stints in Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Ramirez was similarly honored in the 2008 Car of the Year Awards with a lifetime achievement award.
