STA. RITA -- Two motorcycle-riding men who are allegedly members of the notorious Bonnet Gang were caught by elements of the Sta. Rita police on Tuesday, reports said.
Senior Inspection Michael Masangkay, this town's chief of police, identified the suspects as Noel Bondoc Garcia, 31, of B26 Resettlement Area Barangay Palmayo; and John Lee Labrador De Ausen, 30, from Barangay Apalit, both in Floridablanca town.
The suspects were flagged down by policemen during a checkpoint along Barangay Becuran, Sta. Rita, but did not stop, prompting police to conduct a hot pursuit operation.
One of the suspects, identified as Garcia, engaged the policemen into a gunfight. Soon after, he lost control of the motorcycle which resulted to his apprehension.
On the other hand, De Ausen was caught along Barangay San Matias in Guagua town.
The two are believed to be involved in gun-for-hire activities and the series of robbery/hold-up incidents that target gasoline stations in some areas in Bataan and second district town in the province. The said Bonnet Gang members are also believed responsible for a robbery incident at a computer shop in Floridablanca in 2005, a hardware shop in Barangay Becuran, Sta. Rita and Burger Machine stalls in the second district. The gasoline stations which they victimized include the Total gasoline station in Valdez, Floridablanca, Petron and Caltex in Limay, Bataan and the JDL gasoline station in this town.
They were also allegedly involved in a rape with robbery incident that transpired in Barangay Solib in Floridablanca in 2005.
"These kinds of criminal activities are not welcome in Sta. Rita and our police force is working hard to eradicate this for the benefit of the many and apprehension of the culprits," Masangkay said.
Recovered from the suspects were a .45 caliber pistol and a hand grenade. (Chris Navarro)
