CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The National Housing Authority (NHA) is set to give the Provincial Government of Pampanga a P10-million grant for the development of a resettlement site in Magalang town.
Governor Lilia Pineda met Thursday with NHA officials led by project manager Ines Gonzales regarding the resettlement site for development in Barangay San Isidro, where housing units for some 117 informal settler-families will be built in a 3.9-hectare property.
About three hectares will be allotted for a permanent evacuation center, while the remaining .9 hectare parcel will be for a resettlement area for informal settlers.
Governor Pineda said that Capitol will purchase the property with a 10-year recovery period, for the benefit of the informal settlers and for the planned permanent evacuation for flood victims.
During the meeting, she requested the NHA to use P5 million of the total P10-million grant for the mobilization and construction of housing units for the informal settlers.
The governor stressed that she “wants people and the area in order because the informal settlers are scattered in the total four hectare land.” Magalang is one of the flood-free areas in Pampanga.
“Kailangan nating ayusin ang ating mga resettlement sites at evacuation centers,” she added, citing that a public market should also be constructed in the village for its more than 10,000 residents.
Gonzales, meanwhile, noted that the NHA needs a letter of intent from the provincial government before the grant is released.
