Eco group introduces ‘veggie sisig’-A A +A

ANGELES CITY -- The Green Youth Brigade (GYB) has introduced a reinvention of the signature Kapampangan dish -- the sisig -- for vegetarians.
"Our version of sisig is tasty. It is designed for people who are health conscious," GYB convener Louie Reyes said during the group's meatless lunch and cooking event last Tuesday.
The dish uses gluten and tofu as a replacement for meat and mixes it with the original ingredients such as calamansi, green and red bell peppers, hot chili, salt, and onions. It likewise added mushroom powder and cream to the recipe.
"For those who have high cholesterol and wishes to enjoy the luscious taste of sisig without the meat, this is definitely a promising dish you could serve especially now that Christmas is nearing. This is a healthy and delightful way to enjoy eating without worrying those high-blood pressures," Reyes added.
GYB's annual meatless lunch and cooking event is in response to the call of Luntiang Martes movement chair Custer Deocaris to make October 1 every year as no meat day. (PR)
