'San Fernando lacks world-class hotels'-A A +A

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Businessman Alfrito "Bong" Mah on Wednesday said that this city is ripe for inbound tourism promotion through cultural and heritage attractions, but laments the lack of refutable hotels to accommodate foreign and local tourists.
Mah said the city's Giant Lantern Festival is enough to draw huge crowds and tourists in December. The lantern sector here, he said, is currently doing steps to improve its marketing of products and provide tour programs and packages of its craft industries and attractions. However, the city falls short in providing available accommodations due to lack of big hotels in the capital city.
"If people are looking for good accommodations, one would need to stay inside Clark or Angeles City," Mah said. The distance alone from the capital city and hotel facilities, he said, deprives the city of tourist opportunities. Mah said for the city's tourism programs to progress, it needs to be able to provide the necessary facilities and support services available through the help of the private sector.
"We have the attractions, the programs, the people… but we do not have reliable accommodations," Mah said.
According to Mah, the local government should encourage the business sector to go into hotel services and wellness businesses to better cater to local and foreign tourists.
"The presence of big hotels will greatly help in the promotion of our programs and will be a come-on for local tourism," Mah said.
