CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Provincial Government responded excellently well to disasters brought by Typhon "Santi" over the weekend, but Governor Lilia Pineda said Monday that extra preparations should be done to further minimize damages to properties and loss of lives.
During Monday's emergency meeting and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office assessment attended by mayors, municipal engineers, local disaster offices, Mines and Geosciences Bureau, and Department of Interior and Local Government, she emphasized the need for additional plans, including the establishment of a permanent evacuation center and relocation site.
"We have seen what to happened to Mt. Arayat again. And Santi just passed for a few hours. What if the typhoon stayed longer? What could have happened to San Luis, San Simon, Macabebe and Minalin? The provincial government needs the recommendations and support of all government agencies," said Governor Pineda.
She stressed that she was "taking over" the proposed relocation site in Barangay San Juan Bano given the situation and plight of families affected by a new landslide.
"We need another relocation site, in fact. Iyung malayo sa landsline prone areas. May P10 million pa ang Capitol. We need your recommendations as soon as possible," the governor said.
