PORAC -- While incidents of election-related violence soar in some parts of the country, two opposing candidates in Barangay Balubad here walked together as they seek the support of the village’s constituents.
Incumbent Balubad chairman Felino “Jun” Ocampo Jr. said this shows the love and unity of residents in the barangay, a consistent earner of the cleanest and greenest village in the province.
Alona “Lhong” Gomez, who opposed Ocampo in the race for chairmanship, shared the views saying they do not resort to dirty politics and mudslinging.
The two candidates, who incidentally are distant relatives, walked along the barrio with their respective runningmates carrying banners of unity.
They were assisted by executives and employees of Mekeni Food Corporation headed by their president, Prudencio “Pruds” Garcia, who said that residents of Balubad are known for their oneness.
“Itamu kening mikakamag-anak, mikakalugud, misasanmetung. Mamaldo, mumuran mamagyu, reng tau Balubad mesubuk na la keng pamisanmetung,” Garcia said.
Mekeni Food Corporation is a product of a community, which is united, according to him.
Garcia lauded the candidates for their commitment to maintain unity and genuine public service.
Garcia vowed to support the programs of leaders who will be voted in Monday’s elections.
He even expressed hope that this humble undertaking be emulated by other areas in the province and the whole country.
Balubad has more than 1,800 registered voters.
